Description
The Labrador Retriever’s earliest origins can be traced back to the northern border, in the Canadian province of Newfoundland. They were employed as duck retrievers and widely used as fisherman’s helpers: hauling nets, fetching ropes, and retrieving fish. Then in the early 1800s, Labs started to become more popular after English nobles spotted them on their visit to Canada. During the latter half of the 19th century, British breeders refined and standardized the dog.
Labs have endless energy and love to play in the water. They were bred as sporting and hunting dogs making them very muscular and athletic. These dogs are also very friendly, outgoing, high-spirited, and intelligent. The soft coat they sport can be yellow, black, or chocolate. They are great companion dogs and America’s most popular breed.
