Shih-poos are full of personality. Because one of their parent breeds is a shih tzu, they have the loyalty and attentiveness that you’d expect from a lap dog. But because their other parent breed is a toy poodle, they’re also highly intelligent and love being the center of attention.
When it comes to hybrid dogs like this one, it all comes down to which parent’s traits dominate. For instance, on one end of the spectrum, you might have a shih-poo with short and curly hair that looks more like its poodle parent. On the other end of the spectrum, you could have a shih-poo with silky and straight hair that looks more like its shih tzu parent. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to how they look, though—it’s just some good old fashioned genetic roulette!
Speaking of genetics and roulette, the color of your shih-poo’s coat will also reflect which parent it takes after more closely. They can come in the colors brown, chocolate, liver, gold, yellow, black, cream, white, and gray.
